I'll be providing original and traditional music for the Autumn Player's latest production of Gary Carden's play about Horace Kephart (celebrated author and one of the driving forces behind the creation of the G. Smokey Mtn. National Park) This will be my second crack at the play. I was part of the first ever production of Outlander over at Parkway Playhouse a few years ago, and had a big time.
This production will be a little different. For one, this is part of the Reader's Theatre Showcase. So, rather than big set pieces, and lights and all that, it'll be more stripped down and the actors will be working from scripts. Also, we won't be using Frank Lee's wonderful music this time. I'm sad to leave out his "Camping and Woodcraft" song, which I loved, but we've picked out some great traditional WNC old time music in place of his original music. Also, I've had the opportunity to come out of my songwriting closet and write some original music for the play. Believe it or not, I actually do a pretty good bit of songwriting, but I tend not to perform it out all that much!
The Autumn Players put this show on last year, and it was so popular that they had to turn people away. So, they decided to offer it again. Last year's had the great Joe Penland to provide music, so I have some pretty big shoes to fill, but I'm really looking forward to it.
So, please come out for a watch/listen. This is a special play by someone I really admire.
